– Abstract
Persisting conflicts in Africa result from structural factors, such as colonial legacy in terms of political and administrative configuration, mingled with structural elements such as interference from neighbouring countries and the absence of military victory. The international community’s response to these complex phenomena still wavers between timidly imposing an undesired peace on belligerents and fostering fragile governments for reconciliation. Thus, persisting conflicts in Africa demand a new approach from the international community, one that would be centred on mediation and global prevention, which would take political as well as socio-economic factors into account.
