French-Russian relations from 2000 to 2006. Between bilateral and multilateral

Abstracts

Relations between France and Russia cannot be separated from the relations of these two countries with other major European powers, nor from the different cases that Russians and Europeans have to work on within the international community. Thus, the Iraqi and Iranian crises have given the two countries an occasion to revive, together with Germany, the Paris-Berlin-Moscow triangle and to position themselves in regard to China and the United States. Yet, we must admit that, whatever the case on which Paris and Moscow have to work together, Russia does not seem to be actually relying on Paris to defend or promote its positions. Germany has insensibly become Russia’s priority, especially under Vladimir Putin’s governance.
