The Olympics Games are first and foremost a national event. They serve as a catalyst in the race for medals, revealing a nation’s ambitions. Through the oldest mode of governance, they become an international event, which the IOC and the States used as a tribune to the world. But the concept also fits perfectly with globalisation, both as sustained by the media that it has attracted and by the system of Olympic cities it has generated.
