The common foreign and security policy as seen by French public opinion

Partager sur :

As witnessed by diverse public opinion polls, the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) is well supported by the European public. However, a deeper study of these instruments reveals that this support has not been transformed into a cohesive union because what is at stake appears secondary to other matters. Other problems appear when we consider the elitist nature of the support for the CFSP, or the hardening of a certain part of opinion on the issues of sovereignty. Finally, the transformations in public opinion in 1999 during the war in Kosovo allows us to glimpse the potential development of a European public opinion on communal foreign policy. – Summary AFRI-2001
