Our planet, which seemed to have been dozing, brutally awakened in 2008 to the shock of finding itself assaulted by a series of blows. One is led to wonder whether the crises that began this year are to be the 21st century’s true starting point. At the very least, these crises have represented the reversal of a cycle in economy and politics. The financial bubble’s collapse has eventually affected real economy, and the economic crisis has rapidly contaminated all fields on all continents. The return of State interventions to reverse this irreversible trend shows a true revolution in mentalities. Economic instability has been topped by political instability, as three major crises have blatantly proved it: the Russian intervention in South Ossetia, renewed tensions between India and Pakistan, and finally the Israeli military operations in the Gaza strip.
