The United Nations Committee on the peaceful uses of outer space (CPUOS): part and activities

Partager sur :

Abstract

Since its inception by a General Assembly decision in 1959 The United Nations Committee on the peaceful uses of outer space has been the catalyst for international cooperation in the space sector, thus contributing to elaborate a specific international legal framework for outer space activities. During the last few years, the CPUOS’ activities have focused on defining international norms to face space rubble and the presence of nuclear energy sources in outer space. The Committee’s future challenges mostly reside in its ability to reform its mode of operation so as to remain the main tool for international cooperation in the realm of space.
