Environmental security is more frequently discussed by diplomats, as security implications of climate change are becoming visible. However, the notion is uneasy : not all the threats coming from climate change are equally acute, or even perceptible. Also, how to categorize a threat that we are all individually responsible for ? Although IPCC has warned about a full range of challenges, from rising sea levels to environmental migration, international organisations for security are still reluctant to consider the security implications of climate change. If one remembers Hardin, Jonas or Crutzen’s eminent voices, one can nevertheless assume that this issue – that French foreign policy is determined to stand up for – will become more urgent.
