As in 1999, the national French agency has returned to a state of psycho-drama. Elected in March 2000, the new chairman was forced to resign in September of the same year. The back-ground of this crisis has pushed forward the development of the AFP in the context of global competition with other international agencies, and also pushed it to adapt its statute to earn its economic independence from the French State. – Summary AFRI-2001
