The United States and the United Nations

Partager sur :

The ambiguity of the relationship between the United Nations Organization and the United States is not new, and seems to even be a constant in international politics. This remark calls for an in-depth explanation and identification the trends of a policy aiming at controlling international organizations. What are the fundamental causes of this rocky relationship? It is not enough to explain this as the result of a changing context which simultaneously causes American interests to evolve unilaterally and multilaterally. An explanation of the contradictory, authoritarian, inconsistent and conflicting American attitude towards the UN must be looked for in the structure of the American political system. The entire foreign policy, and especially the American policy towards the UN, is the result of an internal tension, result of the balance of power between the executive and the legislative branches. – Summary AFRI-2001
